Woodstork
Way is nestled next to Harris Neck Wildlife Refuge on the southern
coast of Georgia. The long narrow plan is on an East West axis and
allows light to enter the house from the south and north thru large
sliding doors. The program was to reduce the energy by 40 percent
from their previous house. A high efficiency air conditioner, icynene
insulation, and an insulated crawl space have proved to be effective.
Durability for the exterior was priority. Cement siding on rain screen
construction and local cypress in mostly covered locations add warmth
and long term durability. The interior is long lasting porcelain tile
for the floors, FSC bamboo for furniture and cabinets, and local cypress
for the ceilings and kitchen. Ventilation during the cooler months
is aided with a functioning belvedere and fans.
