EDGE Architects and David Naylor Interiors designed the Gonzales Residence as a Traditional Southwestern expression. The scope of the woodwork consisted of the Kitchen, All Bathrooms, and the Stair. The program was to provide an “aged or distressed” finish to all the new cabinets. This consisted of hand planed surfaces with a paint and glazed surface as well stained and distressed Cherry for Kitchen and stained and distressed carved Oak for the Stair. The challenged was to fit family painted panels, from an old house, in new wood frames. Each piece of cabinetry was its own proportional arrangement with its own Traditional detailing. In the end, the families paintings were preserved within a new context.
